NEW 2-day course: Repairing and Maintaining Traditional Windows - The Joiners Workshop, Balmoral Castle

Thursday 23rd - Friday 24th March 2017


COURSE DESCRIPTION

This 2-day, hands-on course will provide those attending with an understanding of the skills and techniques involved in, conserving, repairing and maintaining Traditional Windows and is aimed at working Joiners, Architects and other construction industry professionals, as well as private owners of traditional buildings and representatives of Conservation Organisations.

Traditional Windows form an important feature of Scotland's Built Heritage. In addition to the contribution made to the appearance and character of a wide range of buildings. If regularly maintained and correctly repaired, Sash and Case, as well as other Traditional Windows, can provide outstanding service for decades - if not centuries.

LOCATION

The course, which is being presented by The Scottish Traditional Skills Training Centre, will be held at The Joiners Workshop, Balmoral Castle, near Ballater, Aberdeenshire.

COURSE DURATION

2 DAYS

Maximum 12 participants

CERTIFICATION

Delegates receive a certificate acknowledging their successful completion of the course.

TIME

9.30am - 4.00pm

CATERING

Sandwich lunches, as well as tea/coffee and refreshments are provided

INSTRUCTION

The Course instructor is Daniel Watson, the Clerk of Works at Balmoral Estate, who is also a highly knowledgeable and experienced joiner with a strong conservation background. Daniel will be assisted by the Castle joiner. The breadth of knowledge and skills Daniel has gained in meeting the conservation, repair and maintenance requirements of a wide range of traditional buildings will be of immense benefit to all attending this course.

CLOTHING (PPE)

No specific requirements, although boiler suits will be available if required.

COURSE FEE

175 per delegate inclusive (no VAT will be charged as the STSTC is a registered charity)
