Members headed north on the Friday afternoon for a tour of castles in Caithness. Castles visited were Balnagown Castle, Berriedale Castle, Braal Castle, Brims Castle, Castle of May, Kiess Castle and others.

As a change to the annual picnic day this year, it was agreed to enhance the SCA visits programme by accepting a long- standing invitation from SCA members Tom and Sylvia Ashton to visit the Isle of Man.

The traditional April AGM weekend brought us to Selkirk, courtesy of David and Judy Steel, who organised the weekend for us. Unusually, because of tight access to some of the properties, we travelled in 3 minibuses

This was held at FINGASK CASTLE, on the Carse of Gowrie ( Perth and Kinross), courtesy of Andrew Thriepland whose family have owned it for most of the time since the 17th Century.

September had us, passports in hand, headed south of the border for a trip round northern Cumbria and the edge of the "debateable lands", long notorious in Borders history.

SCA Castle Tour To Stirlingshire - Apr 2010

Although labelled as a Stirling this trip included the counties of Stirling, Kinross and Clackmannan. A feature of our visit was the number of buildings rescued from ruin. MENSTRIE, ALLOA TOWER, and SAUCHIE.

SCA Members' Day to Ayrshire - Feb 2010

A cold winter day during a break in the snows saw 22 members gather at DUNDONALD CASTLE for the first visit of the day. Followed by PORTENCROSS CASTLE, FAIRLIE CASTLE and KELBURN CASTLE in the afternoon.

The SCA Summer Trip was based in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, the heartland of the Gordon family, and most of the properties on our itinerary had Gordon connections at one time in their life - some good, others less so.
