On a wet and windy morning in June a small party gathered at Edinburgh Airport to board a plane to Basel in Switzerland heading ultimately for Colmar in France to view the dramatic castles of Alsace.
A group of friends from the Scottish Castles Association had got together but the holiday was not for the faint-hearted as many of the sites were eagles' nests perched high on crags and only accessible by foot and that after much effort!
Along with the castles came the beautiful towns, vast vineyards and, of course, the delicious food needless to say it was an excellent menu which was a treat for all our senses.
A full description and history of the castles which were visited on the tour will appear in the forthcoming members Scottish Castles Association Journal (if you're not a member, you can join here ) but, meanwhile, here are a select few of the many we were privileged to see at such close quarters.
