This 16th century tower house stands near the town of Maybole and overlooks the 13th century Abbey of Crossraguel.
It is vaulted and rises to 3 storeys and a garret with unusual features which makes Baltersan one of the finest of its kind in Scotland.
The castle is for sale and restoration is not for the faint hearted. However, much of the hard work has already been done and a subsidy of approximately £500,000 has been offered by Historic Scotland on the condition that the owner raises the not inconsiderable balance.
