Situated in the isolated border country above St Mary’s Loch, Dryhope is a stout little 16th century tower house once surrounded by a barmkin. There is little here to suggest comfort, simply a vaulted basement, hall, bedroom floor and a vaulted roof. In 1592 an order was made for its destruction.

Long in a state of neglect; walls badly cracked and trees growing on the roof it was secured in 2005.

The tower has been pointed and supported where required. A metal turnpike allows one to ascend to the wall walk and to enjoy the stunning border scenery.
